源自希腊语 hypokrisis(表演、伪装),经古法语 hypocrisie 进入英语,原指戏剧演员戴面具表演的行为。
❶ 虚伪,指表面假装有某种道德或信仰,但实际行为与之相反的行为或态度。常用于批评言行不一的人。
“His constant preaching about honesty was pure hypocrisy, given his shady business deals.”
(他一边大谈诚实,一边做 shady 生意,完全是虚伪。)
