源自希腊语 hypokritēs(演员、伪装者),由 hypo-(在...下)和 krinein(判断、扮演)组成,原指舞台表演者,后引申为表里不一者。
❶ 指言行不一的人,表面假装有某种美德或信仰,实际行为却与之相反。常用于批评虚伪做作的行为。
“He claims to care about the environment, but he drives a gas-guzzling SUV—what a hypocrite!”
